Practice Groups
At 9KBW all Members of Chambers practise in the field of Criminal Law, many exclusively. Members of Chambers accept instructions in Defence and Prosecution work, often as Leading Counsel or as Led Junior Counsel, in the most serious or complex of cases.
Chambers work is often high profile, attracting media interest, because of the seriousness of the offences charged or the extent or complexity of the evidence involved. We represent or prosecute defendants involved in murder and manslaughter, multi-handed cases, those involved in Organised and Gang Crime, cases where firearms are used, kidnapping, high level drugs importation and distribution.
We are regularly instructed in cases where lives have been lost through dangerous driving or arson and in cases where violent disorder has led to life changing injury.
Many of our members have gained high levels of experience in the prosecution and defence of cases involving rape and other sexual abuse, particularly in cases where the victim of the abuse is a child. Our members are extremely skilful in dealing with what can often be sensitive and emotional cases and they apply those skills equally, whether defending or prosecuting.
We have a number of members who are level 4 on the Crown Prosecution Service Advocate Panel and are thus instructed in cases at the highest level of the criminal offence spectrum.
Our advocacy standards are of the highest calibre, our members are dedicated and determined to represent their clients, or the victims of crime, to the very best of their ability.
