Hugh D'Aguilar

Hugh has been in practice for over 25 years, specialising for the past 22 years in criminal defence litigation. 
Hugh’s  experience has equipped him with a deep understanding of the criminal justice system, excellent courtroom presence, and strong advocacy skills that have consistently delivered favourable outcomes for the lay clients and instructing solicitors.
Hugh is a passionate advocate, dedicated to providing exceptional legal representation and making a meaningful impact in society especially when dealing with those society have already labelled as beyond help.
Hugh’s practice covers most common crimes generally but he would say his speciality areas are adult sex offending (Rape, sexual assault).  Violent offending and the full range of drug offences

R .v. MM (2024) – Teenager accused of oral and vaginal rape at college campus – Acquitted. 
R .v. M (2024) – Theft of High end motor vehicle - acquitted
R .v. C (2024) – Female identifying as a male accused of oral and digital sexual assault Acquitted.
R .v. Asad (2025) – Male accused of arson to endanger life – Acquitted.
R v Bristol 172 J.P 161 CA. Successful Appeal against conviction reaffirming and extending the law in relation to police powers to stop and search for drugs. 
R v G – B (A fraudster who modelled himself on the factual character Frank Abagnale Jnr as portrayed by Leonardo Di Caprio in, ’Catch me if you can’).
Redbridge Magistrates court staff trial known as the Sun, Singh, Sting.
Instructed Counsel for one of the Defendants involved in the M1 under carriage arson.
