Callum Morgan instructed as Led Junior in Organised Crime Gang firearms smuggling case
Callum Morgan, led by Gareth Munday of Deka Chambers, prosecuted the leader of an organised crime group who had conspired to smuggle firearms and ammunition into the United Kingdom with the intention of supplying them to criminals.
A total of 169 Glock pistols, 2 AR15's and over 2,700 rounds of ammunition were sourced from the United States. The total value was in excess of £1 million. The defendant also sought to obtain explosives, rocket propelled grenades and hollo tip bullets.
The deliveries were organised using the encrypted messaging application Telegram and involved extensive counter detection measures including the use of corrupt staff in the customs service.
The investigation involved analysing thousands of pages of Telegram messages, surveillance and collaboration with law enforcement agencies in the United States.
The defendant was convicted after a trial and received a sentence of 21 years.
