Christine Eadie

Managing Consultant

Our Managing Consultant, Christine Eadie, has worked as a barrister's clerk since 1990, prior to which she worked for the Lord Chancellor's Department as a Listing Officer for the Kent Crown Courts, Chief Clerk of a County Court, and as a Court Clerk at the Central Criminal Court

Profile:

Christine joined us in 2003 as our Senior Clerk and under her guidance Chambers went from strength to strength, expanding our numbers, our areas of law and increasing our workload and the nature and specialisation of our work throughout the time that she led the clerking team.

In 2016 Christine moved from the role of Senior Clerk to that of our Managing Consultant, where she has overall responsibility for the management of Chambers business and financial side, regulatory compliance, client care, GDPR compliance, Pupillage Administration, Social Responsibility Initiatives, quality control, complaints and social responsibility initiatives.
During 2022/2023 Christine was responsible for preparing Chambers application to the Bar Standards Board to become an Authorised Training and Education Organisation (AETO). Christine, with the co-operation of members, compiled our Training Programme for Pupils in full compliance with the Bar Training Manual and the Professional Statement and all Policies and procedures that support that Training Programme. We are currently provisionally approved as an AETO and we work in accordance with all BSB Rules and Guidance relating to being an AETO.

Because of the policies and procedures that Christine authored, on behalf of Chambers, we now have an application and selection process, and a training programme for those wishing to apply to become Pupil Supervisors. This gives Chambers authority to appoint our own Pupil Supervisors from amongst the members that we know have exactly the experience and knowledge and skill requirements to train our pupils; our members of the future.

Christine was responsible for steering Chambers through the last rigorous BSB Supervision Response, having already done so similarly, and very successfully, for the 2016 Supervision Strategy Report., thus setting the benchmark for our practice management standards. We are extremely proud of the standards of service we provide and Christine ensures that such standards are maintained. She also ensures that we remain fully compliant with the changes in how the Bar must operate in the ever changing world of the legal profession and that we deliver consistently high standards of client care.

Christine works closely with all of Chambers Management and Support Committees as well as our Equality Diversity and Inclusion Officers, to ensure that Chambers offers a welcoming, fair and inclusive environment to anyone who works within Chambers, in any capacity, or instructs our members.

Those who are looking to join a set where Equality Diversity and Inclusion, fair work allocation, the wellbeing of members and staff and a genuinely protective and supportive environment are priority requirements, will find all of that at 9KBW. Our Dignity at Work Policy provides a safe environment for everyone who is associated with Chambers, or may come into contact with its members or staff, ensuring they can work without hindrance, achieve their potential, socialise with dignity and respect from others, and flourish professionally. Christine ensures that our policies, our regulatory compliance and our adherence to exceptional standards are fully explained to all joining. She further takes care to keep all in Chambers fully informed of the requirements to meet professional standards and obligations, Equality, Diversity and Inclusion rules in compliance with Equality Act Regulations and to meet any deadline set for introducing new working practices, or regulatory requirements that chambers must comply with.

In her management role, Christine is always determined that professional and lay clients are entitled to and must receive the best possible quality of service from members and staff alike.
Christine is always available to discuss any potential difficulties or problems that may arise. For instance, should anyone attending Chambers or applying to Chambers for any role require Reasonable Adjustments and they would like to discuss those adjustments, please e mail her on [email protected]. A full copy of our Reasonable Adjustments Policy is set out on our website or Christine will be happy to provide a hard copy upon request.

Christine is a member of our Tenancy and Pupillage Committee and is responsible for the administration of our pupillage recruitment. Chambers advertises through the Pupillage Gateway and adheres to the Gateway Timetable, but all other aspects of pupillage recruitment  and administration, and the management of pupillage regulatory and financial requirements, throughout the 12 month period are handled by Christine
