The Care Quality Commission

The Care Quality Commission (CQC) is a public body, sponsored by the Department of Health and Social Carer which regulates all health and social care services in England. Their ambit covers regulatory oversight of the safety levels and the quality of care provided by care homes, and the care provided to people being cared for at home,  services provided by hospitals, GPs dentists, ambulances and mental health services and services for people whose rights are restricted under the Mental Health Act.

The CQC registers care providers, and thereafter monitors and regulates those providers. This includes the power to inspect care homes and publish their findings. Where the care provided does not meet regulatory standards, the CQC can take action that may involve instructing members of Chambers to prosecute those cases, where people are harmed or are placed in danger of some harm.

Prosecutions are carried out under the regulations contained within the Health and Social Care Act 2008 (Regulated Activities) Regulations 2014.

In recent years there have been several cases that were given nationwide media attention, following prosecutions by the CQC.

Our highly experienced prosecutors  will bring the skills and expertise of a criminal practitioner to the fore when instructed in cases for the CQC
