Crime (Defence and Prosecution)

All Members of Chambers practise in the field of Criminal Law, many exclusively. Most Members of Chambers undertake both Defence and Prosecution work , acting from the Magistrates Courts through to the Crown Courts, the High Court and the Court of Appeal. The work undertaken varies from the most serious crimes such as murder, rape and child abuse down to the simplest road traffic offences. Both publicly funded and private work is undertaken.

Our Members of Chambers are fully committed to providing the highest standards of client care, whether instructed for the Defence or Prosecution, a client charged with murder or a client charged with driving offences. We will strive at all times to act in the best interests of our clients.

Counsel are happy to hold conferences, either in Chambers or at Solicitors offices or at any other suitable venue, as well as giving oral or written advice as required.

Defence solicitors or Prosecuting authorities who wish to discuss choice of Counsel, the availability of that counsel of choice or levels of fees in privately funded matters may contact any one of the clerking team who will be very happy to discuss and advise upon the most suitable options.
For those clients who are paying fees privately through an instructing solicitor and for those who wish to instruct a barrister under the Direct Public Access scheme, a helpful guide to the general level of fees charged, and in what circumstances, can be found under the About Us page, sub heading Fee Scales, on our website.
Our members have extensive experience in all areas of criminal law and at every level. Those instructing 9 KBW will always have a choice of Counsel and can discuss with the clerks the qualities and experience that they require for each individual case. We want you to have the right person for your case, whether it is a case of murder or a traffic offence. The satisfaction of our clients is of paramount importance to us.
We defend and prosecute, fearlessly and robustly. We offer you Counsel of the highest calibre. We want to provide you with the best possible service, right from your introductory telephone call until the final word in your case

Counsel at 9 King’s Bench Walk frequently appear as Leading Juniors, or are led by QC or by Senior Counsel, and several have recently been instructed in multiple high profile cases. We currently have Counsel instructed as Prosecution Lead Counsel in a series of very substantial multi handed conspiracies to blackmail, with related kidnapping offences, involving very serious gang violence and the use of firearms.

All of our members have experience in drug related cases where there are often other offences of violence or firearms jointly charged or where we have been instructed in cases alleging the drugs manufacture as well as its distribution. Recently we represented two clients at trial who were part of a 15 handed large scale Conspiracy to Supply Class A drugs.

We have considerable experience of dealing with honour crime and are well equipped to handle the sensitive and often confidential issues that arise in these or similar cases where witnesses can feel particularly vulnerable or intimidated.

We have several senior members who specialise in cases of rape and the most serious sexual offences, particularly those involving the historic sexual abuse of young children
