9KBW goes international!
Sophie Quinton-Carter and Ben Edwards took a trip across the pond to New York City in November to judge at the prestigious Empire international mock trial competition.
Teams from 7 countries battled it out in a topical terrorism case involving bombs and a shooting on the campaign trail of presidential candidate, Ronald Crump. Students had to get to grips with the American justice system - including pre-trial arguments, arguing objections, and the thrill of actually moving around the courtroom!
Sophie and Ben are pictured at the Eastern District Court in Brooklyn alongside the team from Springwood High School in Kings Lynn. The GCSE students found out about Empire after having Sophie as a mentor for the national mock trial competition in the UK. They went on to raise £20,000 in sponsorship to fund their trip and placed an amazing 4th out of 44 teams!
