The charge related to the alleged fraudulent evasion of duty of between £5 million and £6 million. The case involved extensive surveillance and a large volume of telephone and banking and other documentary evidence. In the face of a detailed defence and a persistent and detailed approach to disclosure requests on behalf of John’s client, the prosecution decide to offer no evidence in the trial of all four defendants and the client was found Not Guilty.
